Looks like G-Force Technologies (http://www.gforceheli.com) has done it again with another addition to their high quality hop-ups for the Align T-Rex 700.
We received a set of their T-Rex 700N Hi-Tilt Flybar Cage Conversion & Tuner Arms (Mixing & Washout) for a review and we must say that the verdict is definitely a “10.” If you want the full story you know what to do.
Installation – Score 9:
To keep the cost down G-Force does not include bearings pre-installed in the new mixing arms. You will need to either purchase a new set of bearings or remove the bearings from the stock mixing arms. To remove the bearings use a small propane torch or a very hot heat gun. Once you got them hot tap the arm on the table to knock the bearing out. While the bearing is still hot drop it in the new G-Force arm and allow to cool back to room temperature.
The good news is once you have the bearings in the new arms, the hard part is over. The install of the arms and flybar cage are both identical to installing the stock components. All the stock linkages and ball links remain the same with the exception of the linkage connecting to the flybar cage. You will need shorten this linkage due to the new “tilt” of the flybar cage that allows for increased cyclic pitch.
Note: The test heli has the Quick UK ball link set installed, however the G-Force tuning arms are compatible and install the same with either the stock or Quick UK parts.
Quality and Fit – Score 10:
No surprise here, another perfect 10 for G-Force’s parts quality. The machining fit and finish is excellent, no issues whatsoever. One thing you will notice is the G-Force flybar cage is significantly “beefier” then the stock Align cage. There have been many reports online of pilots snapping the stock flybar cage under hard 3D flight. I’m sure G-Force took note of this issue and used extra material in this area to prevent that from happening anymore.
Performance – Score 10:
We found the G-Force mixing arms lived up to their claims. With each arm you have three choices total. The middle hole in each arm is identical to the stock Align arms. The hole closest to the mounting point of the arm is going to give you faster collective/cyclic response. The outside hole will give you slower then stock collective/cyclic response. So this kit actually serves two different segments of the hobby. The hardcore 3D pilots will benefit from the inner hole and increase response, while the FAI/F3C pilots will benefit from a slower response of the outside hole. See the included instructions below for a visual of the mounting hole options.
The new mixing arms and flybar cage also allow you to run more collective and cyclic pitch then stock. However we found that heli was very easy to bog with the increased pitch and thus would only recommend it for pilots with very good collective management. Running the same amount of pitch as stock, but with faster or slower response time of the arms will be noticed and valuable to all pilots.
