RC Heli Pioneer Has Passed Away

Mr. Keitaro Mastsusaka, 1945-2011

The staff of Hirobo would like to take this opportunity to respectfully extend their deep appreciation and honour him for his kindness and dedication. A wake and funeral for the Matsusaka family and friends was already held last week and a vigil ‘in memory of Keitaro Matsusaka’ is being held next week which will be attended by business associates.

For more than 30 years, as the head of Hirobo Limited, Mr Keitaro Matsusaka took the initiative to develop the products of the radio-controlled aeromodels and played an enormous role and contribution to the promotion of the aeromodelling. In 1980s, he succeeded in the world first development of the radio-controlled helicopter model named ‘Shuttle’ equipped with an engine specifically designed for it, which was adapted for the beginner to the advanced aeromodellers because of its high level performance and control simplicity. With the release of this new model, the number of aeromodellers increased dramatically around the world (about 400.000 have been produced to this day) and brought the progress in a lot of national and international competitions including FAI World Championships. Besides the above performance, the model exclusively designed for the F3C competition led the Japanese competitors to the victory in FAI F3C World Championsihp in 1985.

Since then, the Japanese team achieved high-ranking for the 13 times without a break. Since 1990, as a councillor of Japan Radio Control Safety Association, he has contributed to raising the level of flight safety consciousness for aeromodellers. He also worked very hard to obtain the exclusive radio frequency for aeromodelling to avoid the crash due to the radio frequency interference.

A message written by Mr Matsusaka on the Hirobo website spells out his and his company’s vision and goes some way towards explaining why they have been so successful:
