This has been reported all over Facebook but for those of you that don’t follow us on Facebook we’d just like to report that Derrick Threatt, our executive editor, was injured at 3DX Philippines last Saturday by an Align T-Rex 700E or 550E that lost radio control while ascending for an end of routine auto. Pilot Brian Te was at the controls when the helicopter smashed into the judges tent injuring the event coordinator, an event assistant and Derrick. Derrick was transported immediately by on scenes paramedics by ambulance to Makati Med and underwent surgery Saturday night for a partially severed Achilles tendon and never damage to the back of his right leg. There were no safety violations by the event. Distances were safe as well as appropriate safety measure were in place with paramedics, air evac and ambulance on scene.
Derrick was required to stay in Manila until he was able to regain function and sense of touch in his foot before traveling back to the USA. Due to this injury Derrick will not be able to attend 3DMasters 2011.
Just a reminder that this hobby can get dangerous when not paying attention. Play safe.
