We got an opportunity to make this preview video with the permission of YS Engines and Tim Jones for the soon to be released YS 91SR-3DS nitro motor. This powerhouse is amazing. If you are a power hog then this is the ONLY motor you want. A projected release date May/June, 2010. Make sure you local hobby shop gets this motor soon as they hit the mainland.

Today, courtesy of Lynx Heli Innovations (the U.S. Distributor for Novarossi products), we received the Novarossi Rex 91HR-3D engine, the Rex H9 Venturi Header and the Rex H9 Tuned Pipe.  We did some tear down and rebuild and got it into the 700 but due to the rain we were not able to flight test it.  We will get into more detail about tuning and power characteristics tomorrow.  Today we will just outline a few initial observations.

UPDATE: Today we received an e-mail from Bert Kammerer stating the new OS 91HZ-PS is *not* the same engine he has been testing recently.  While the new 61b-PII carb does feature an updated regulator design, it is not the completely new regulator system that Bert and other OS pilots are currently testing.  While the new motor more then likely runs better then the previous PS version, you can expect another new motor this coming Sprin/Summer 2010 featuring the completely redesigned regulator.

As we reported a couple weeks ago OS has begun shipping their latest 91 engine.  The OS 91HZ-PS 3D features the updated 61B-PII carburetor with newly designed regulator system that matches the on-board PD-08 pump.  This is the exact same motor and regulator system we saw both Matt Botos and Bert Kammerer testing this past summer in their heli’s with amazing results!  Well, the new motor is officially in stock at Experience RC and Esprit Models and ready to ship today!

It comes that time with every motor when it starts to lose power or the bearing is going out and making noise. I recently had one of my YS 91 SR engines start making a bearing noise and was losing power, so I decided to rebuild it and document the process for future reference. Rebuilding an heli engine is not terribly difficult, but following a certain order of steps will make it much easier.

For the past couple months we have been reporting on the progress of a new comer to the 2-stroke heli engine arena, KME engines.  They have gone after the “big block” 50 size market for people who are looking to squeeze more power into those 600 size heli’s.

Well, the time has come!  KME has released final production pictures of the Diamond .60 Pro engine as well as specifications.  The new engine will be on display at IRCHA and is expected to start shipping within the next 30 days.  You can expect to see more details here very soon as well as a full review in the near future.
