I made the trip up to Americus, Georgia to attend the 2009 Southeastern Electric Flight Festival last weekend. SEFF this year was a huge success. I’m not sure the final tally of registered pilots but I was #437 and I regestered at 11:00AM on Friday so you can imagine how large the turnout was. This event is definetely an airplane event but this year there was more heli’s than I’ve ever seen before. There were a few top heli pilots such as Bert Kammerer, Matt Botos, Clintstone, and Bobby Smith on hand to demonstrate the power of electric helis.

As Sean Williams already mentioned the 2009 Huntsville Heli Flyers Fun Fly was a must see event and those that haven’t experienced it yet should plan to in the future. There was great weather, great scenery, great pilots, and great flying. The Huntsville gang really knows how to run an event and this was definitely displayed by the shear number of pilots attending. They raffled off a Futaba 10C radio as well as a T-Rex 700N. RCHeliResource had a ball covering the event.

You know and love him, Jack Dunkle, nicest guy at a fun-fly and owner of JMDModels.Com Bringing something other than smack down to the field. His scale ships are always a treat to watch. This weekend here at the 2009 Phoenix Fun-Fly was no exception.

This guy has guts getting this EC-135 unstuck from snow. Looks like it laid down on the tail. Maybe they got forced down in a storm and are now leaving because its clear.

Day 2 was just as hot as day one with many demos and non-sponsored pilot competitions. Check out the second photo gallery from the event.

Looks like it’s on between old-timers Mikado of Germany and Vancouver-based newcomer Skookum Robotics when it comes to the pricing or their Digital / Virtual flybar systems. Mikado has been the major player in this area for a long time, but their device has historically had a pretty high price tag. More recently, Skookum has come on the scene with their own product, which has only a 2-axis internal gyro, allowing Skookum [ click here to see videos, photos & rest of story ]

No, the conversion isn’t by Align. Don’t think its commercially available yet. It is running on a Wrenn MP-44 powerplant. Definitely sound way different from our typical nitro hot rods.

This is another nice HD Video from Tony Elms of a scale Huey Cobra. This thing is huge.

I like scale helicopters. In fact at one time I did have a Thunder Tiger MD500 Defender. It was a 70. I eventually got rid of it because of its size and I was just too afraid to wreck it. I ended up selling it and got back 90% of my money so I was happy about that.
Here is another READER submitted video. This video is BY Tony Elms of Ian Bishop flying his EUROCOPTER EC 155 at Marley Stadium, Keighley, West Yorkshire. Looks like a nice bird. Seems like SCALE is bigger overseas than it is here in the United States
