I spoke with Alan’s father Alan Szabo Sr. and he mentioned that the esc WAS NOT the issue. It was the batteries, that were borrowed form a local pilot had very short leads. During the flight the connectors came loose and caused the heli to loose power, but it must be one tough heli because all they did was reconnect the leads and he was back in the air to finish his flight!
