I had not planned on being able to attend XFC this year however, due to a family emergency I ended up being in Cleveland, OH on Saturday and Sunday. Late afternoon Sunday I had some free time so my girlfriend and I made the short 3.5 hour drive to Muncie, IN to catch the last that we could of the competition.
Winners.
Unfortunately, by the time we got there we had missed most of the final round of helicopters but we were able to catch the last round of the plankers as well as the final round of team competition. The event looked like it was an end to a great weekend of close competition and lots of very demanding flying.
I have to give it up for the airplane guys as they always seem to amaze me and coming from the heli side of the house we have a tendancy to say airplanes are easy…..not the way these guys fly. They are amazing! They do rolling loops and figure eights….I mean fast full deflection rolling loops and very controlled as well as right on the deck. You can see that they have taken snake type maneuvers from the heli guys and incorporated them into their routines and their size is just intimidating. Jason Noll got top honers this year. Congrats to him and all the other airplane competitors this year.
Sean McMurtry doing a Low Slow Knife Edge.
The final round of the team competition was fun to watch as defending champs Bert Kammerer and Bobby Watts competed against Adrian and Stuart Smith with their matching T-Rex 700’s from Engand and Ross and Paul Hollarman with their matching Extreme Flight Yak-54’s. Bert and Bobby took the top honors again this year.
Some formation flying by Bert Kammerer and Bobby Watts.
Congratulations to Jamie Robertson and Nick Maxwell of Team Youngblood and Power Helis for placing 1st and 2nd in the helicopter group respectively. Congrats to Bobby Watts of Miniature Aircraft for a solid third place performance.
The final standings in both airplane and heli were:

My girlfriend and I had a great time and I am glad we made the trip over to see the end of the competition. It was great meeting Chris Walton of Fast Lad Performance and Daniel Jetchin who made the trip over from the UK. We spent some time with Daniel Katzav and his parents who came all the way from Israel making the 18-hour journey so Daniel could be part of the competition. These guys were just great to hang out with and you can just see how proud Daniel’s parents are of him. Daniel tied Bobby Watts for 1st place in the night flight and I’m sure great things are in store for him in the future.
It was extremely hazy with the sun directly overhead which made it difficult for photos but you can check out the rest of my shots in the gallery below. Hope you enjoy.
